The original grounwater geowaterbodies layer was developed by Information Center for the Environment as a coverage named g_gwtr.shp. Rr_gwtrhu.shp was created by Circuit Rider Productions, Inc. Polygon features from the original source data were selected based on their spatial location within the extent of the Russian River basin.This metadata file incorporates information that is specific to this layer as well as information that is available in the original metadata file (g_gwtr_meta.txt). The portions of this metadata file that borrow text from g_gwtr_meta.txt are indicated in quotation marks.

Abstract: "The 'Ground GeoWaterbodies' layer is a user created layer of groundwater basins. This layer is a subset of the GRDWATERBASINS' layer desrcibed below. The Groundwater basins in this layer are created by the user selecting basins from the 'GRDWATERBASINS' layer as needed for their assessment cycle. The 'GRDWATERBASINS' layer shows groundwater basins and sub-basins as defined by the California Department of Water Resources. Groundwater basins are designated on the basis of geological and hydrological conditions, these usually being the occurrence of alluvial or unconsolidated deposits. When practical, large basins are also subdivided by political boundaries, as in the Central Valley. Basins are named and numbered per the convention of the Department of Water Resources."

" DATA QUALITY ASSESSMENT:
The following are subjective comments regarding this data.

The State Water Resources Control Board traced selected formations from 250K USGS geologic maps onto mylar sheets. Because the USGS maps are regarded as high-quality maps and because of the integrity of mylar, it could be said that the resulting digitized coverage maintains good accuracy. Some of the tracings on the mylar, however, seemed a bit jagged and, in some cases, problems with horizontal rectification between USGS quads and the mylars were solved by repositioning tics. The coverage is, therefore, only of moderate quality."
