Description:

Abstract:

These Historic Topographic Maps of the Russian River Watershed were originally created by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Originally, these maps were known as "Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army Tactical Maps" and were created as quadrangles. Due to the conditions of map publishing at the time, the various historic maps for this region were created during different years and at different scales. In most cases, the historic images are illustrated with a 100 foot contour interval. Unfortunately, when the maps were scanned or stored, many of the maps had their titling information removed (it is unknown at what point in the process the removal of this information ocurred).

Purpose:

The historic topographic quadrangles were georeferenced and included as datasets in the Russian River Interactive Information System (RRIIS). for the purposes of providing a view of the historic conditions (as illustrated by the US Corps Army Corps of Engineers) along the Russian River.

Supplemental_Information:

Due to changes in mapping technologies over time, maps of the Russian River region that are recently created are significantly more accurate than the historic maps created by the USACOE. These historic maps have been georeferenced by Circuit Rider Productions, Inc. using the best available software and methods. However, errors in locational placement still exist among the georeferenced images. Consequentially, these images should be used to infer qualitative and generalized information only.
