These data identify, in general, the areas where final critical habitat for the yellow larkspur occur. "This data layer represents areas where final critical habitat for the yellow larkspur occur in the Russian River watershed. Features from the original source data (see Originator information) were selected based on their spatial location within the Russian River watershed in Sonoma and Mendocino counties in California (the study area boundary of the Russian River Watershed Adaptive Management Plan project). This metadata file incorporates new information to the metadata of the original source data. This new information is indicated in quotation marks."
To provide the user with a general idea of areas where final critical habitat for the yellow larkspur occur. "This data layer was edited from its original source data set for inclusion in the Russian River Watershed Adaptive Management Plan (RRWAMP) and RRWAMP Baseline Watershed Assessment project. The intended use of this data layer in this project is to examine landscape or human factors to promote ecological health and sustainability within the Russian River watershed."

These data are intended to be used as a guide to identify the general areas where final critical habitat for the yellow larkspur occur. Specific identity of critical habitat should be obtained from the text of the final designation of critical habitat for the yellow larkspur (Delphinium luteum) published in: Federal Register, March 18, 2003, vol. 68, no. 52, pages 12834-12863. We delineated the final critical habitat units by overlaying GIS data layers of yellow larkspur occurrences, vegetative cover, soil type, slope, and land use on digital orthophotographic quarter quadrangle images. We made an effort to avoid developed areas and lands unlikely to contain the primary constituent elements for yellow larkspur. However, we did not map critical habitat in sufficient detail to exclude all developed areas. Federal actions limited to developed areas would not trigger a section 7 of the Endangered Species Act consultation, unless they affect the species or primary constituent elements in adjacent critical habitat. Unit 3 of the proposed critical habitat was modified for the final critical habitat. Areas of this unit were removed as a result of additional information received during the comment period which indicated a lack of primary constituent elements in the removed areas.

"This data layer was created for the Russian River Watershed Adaptive Management Plan (RRWAMP) and RRWAMP Baseline Watershed Assessment project through minor editing to the original source data. Data were clipped to the project study area boundary (rr_watershed_bndy.shp) and projected using ESRI's ArcGIS GeoProcessing tools; and renamed to the current file name."
