(CRP) staff digitized the extent of riparian vegetation within the alluvial sections of major riparian corridors in the Russian River watershed from aerial photography in 2005 and 2006 (SWRCB Grant Agreement No. 04-080-551-0). Riparian extent mapping was "heads up" digitized at a 1:2,400 (1 = 200 ) scale with a minimum mapping unit of 15 sq. ft. (and minimum mapping width of 15 ). Aerial photography used includes AirPhotoUSA, LLC true color ortho-rectified aerial photography captured 08-30-2004 to 09-01-2004 (2 ft cell resolution), and Sonoma County GIS Central black and white ortho-rectified aerial photography captured 04-2000 to 05-2000 (1 ft to 2 ft cell resolution). The contract was cancelled in June 2006; this dataset represents the work completed prior to cancellation. It is believed that the dataset includes all of the areas of riparian vegetation within the Russian River watershed that were classified as "alluvial"; however, this has not been verified. Some polygons were checked by a second analyst, which included reviewing and editing of the initial the aerial photography interpretation as well as on the ground "drive-by" field checks. The polygons reviewed cover most of the "Lower Reach" of the Russian River watershed (below the Wohler Bridge) and the lower reach of Mark West Creek; these areas are the most challenging for riparian habitat extent delineation.
